Metal Rod Apparatus consists of a metal rod horizontally placed in an M.S. cylinder (insulating jacket) & is insulated by covering the metal rod by insulating powder. An electric heater is fixed at one end of the rod while the other end protrudes into a water jacket. The heat flows through the rod by mode of conduction. A number of thermocouples are fixed along the length of the rod.Six thermocouples are embedded along the length of the rod to measure the temperature distribution. Four more thermocouples are placed within the insulating powder while two thermocouples measure the water temperature at inlet & outlet. The control panel consists of a dimmers stat to control the voltage supplied to the heating element. A Voltmeter, an ammeter, and a digital temperature indicator are also provided.

    The Emissivity Apparatus consists of two similar aluminum discs. One of the discs is coated with black color and behaves like a black surface and the other disc is having a machined plane surface. Discs are fitted with similar heaters. The discs are placed in the enclosure in a symmetrical manner. Heater terminals taken out from the enclosure are connected to the mains supply through dimmer stat to vary the heater input. A temperature of each disc is measured by 3 thermocouples. One more thermocouple is placed inside the enclosure to measure surrounding temperature.The control panel consists of two dimmers to control the voltage supplied to each heater. A Voltmeter, an ammeter measures the voltage & current supplied to each heater. A digital temperature indicator reads the temperatures recorded by thermocouples.

      The Forced Convection Apparatus is designed to determine heat transfer rate in forced convection. It consists of horizontal copper tube heated by an electric heater. A number of thermocouples are fitted on the surface of the tube along its length. The test pipe is housed inside a steel pipe. A blower provides forced convection of air by blowing the air at high velocity to cause turbulent flow. The flow rate of the blower is measured by orifice plate & U Tube Manometer.The control panel consists of a dimmers stat to control the voltage supplied to the heating element.         The Pin Fin Apparatus is designed to determine heat transfer from an extended surface (Pin). It consists of a metallic pin-fin which is heated at one end by the electric heater.           Thermal Conductivity of Insulating Powder apparatus consists of two concentric copper spheres. The insulating powder, (Asbestos) is filled in the space between the two spheres.                 Stephen Boltzmann Apparatus consists of a hemisphere which is placed inside a tank; the hemisphere is immersed in water when water is poured into the tank. The hemisphere has a cover with the hole through which a small copper disc can be located at the center of a hemisphere. Five thermocouples are located on inner surface of the hemisphere while a thermocouple is fitted on the copper disc. The inner surface of the hemisphere, as well as the test disc, are coated with lamp black color. Water inside the tank is heated by an immersion heater. A temperature controller is provided for controlling the temperature of the water by controlling the heater.

                  The Composite Wall Apparatus is designed for the study of Heat transfer through composite slab made up of different materials. Since each material has different thermal conductivity, heat transferred through each of them is different. Using different Heat transfer correlations we can determine the thermal conductivity of entire slab as a single wall.The equipment consists of slab made up of different materials with heater sandwiched at its center. The slab materials are Cast iron, Bakelite and press wood. The slabs are circular in cross-section. The heating element is also circular in shape. In order to ensure an equal rate of heat flow from both sides of the heating element, the heating element is sandwiched between two identical sets of composite slabs. In order to remove the air gaps between the plates, the composite slab is kept pressed in between two pressure plates (M.S. plates) with the help of a screw arrangement. Instruments provided include sensors for measuring temperatures at different points, indicators to measure power supplied to the heater.
