The test rig consists of a reciprocating Air Compressor Test Rig driven by an electric motor. The compressor is two-stage compressor with intercooler. Intake air flow rate is measured by using an airbox with orifice plate & differential manometer. Pressure gauges are provided to measure pressure after 1st stage, 2nd stage & tank pressure. Temperature sensors are used to measure the air temperature at Inlet, after 1st Stage, Intercooler & 2nd stage. Compressor Speed & Power Consumption are displayed on panel meters mounted at the front.In order to study compressor performance at different speeds, Variable Speed Motor with VFD can also be supplied on request.

The Marcet Boiler unit is designed to demonstrate the relationship between the pressure and temperature of the water during steam generation. Temperatures of up to 200°C are possible for recording the vapor pressure curve. The temperature and pressure can be continuously monitored via a digital temperature indicator and a Bourdon tube pressure gauge. A temperature controller and pressure relief valve are fitted as safety devices and protect the system against overpressure.

Temperature Indicator 8 Channel with Thermocouple Input

The Separating & Throttling calorimeter is designed for determination of Dryness Fraction of steam. The setup consists of a drum type electrical boiler, Separating Calorimeter, Throttling calorimeter & steam condenser. A temperature controller is provided to control the steam temperature in a boiler. The steam generated in the boiler first is passed through the separating calorimeter & then flows through a throttling device into the throttling calorimeter. Finally, the steam is condensed in the condenser. Amount of water separated in separating calorimeter & the condensate are measured by measuring jars.
Instruments are provided to measure temperature & pressure of steam at different points. A low water level device & pressure relief valve are provided to safeguard the boiler from Low water level & high steam pressure.

The Experimental steam power plant setup is designed to study power generation using steam & evaluate the performance of the power plant. The setup consists of Diesel fired boiler, steam turbine, steam condenser & power generator. The steam is generated in the boiler is supplied to the turbine & after expansion, it flows to the condenser. The condensate is extracted from condenser using extraction pump. The condenser is cooling water is supplied from a large sump tank using a centrifugal pump. An AC alternator is coupled to the generator & power generated is supplied to a load bank of electric heaters. Measuring instruments are provided to measure the pressure & temperature of steam at different points in the cycle. The amount of boiler feed water, condensate & fuel consumption of the boiler is also measured for measurement of boiler efficiency & turbine performance.
